Bards — singers of poetry — are modern-day folklore, one of Latvia’s cultural values. The bard broadcasts his own story and personality, but is simultaneously simply one of the people. Simplicity intermingles with excellence. As eras change, the bards’ message also changes, but their conversation with audiences and the passing on of their message remains the same.
“Strength Grows in Shoots,” the Bards’ Day motto, is also the name of three consecutive concerts. Everything begins with childhood and the love of song fomented during that time: it grows, develops, and our personality starts to express itself; we create song, words, and melodies; then we gain life experience, reflect, and our message matures.
Bards’ Day will be an opportunity to hear a concert programme for families with children, emerging bards, and a grand concert of bards.
The tradition of a bards’ concert began at the 2018 Festival, when the stage in Vērmanes Park hosted the music and thoughts of the Austrasbērni.
